A2A2 French: elementary course
At A2 you move from single sentences to short exchanges: telling what you did last weekend, describing your childhood, making plans, booking a flat or ordering in a restaurant.
B1B1 French: intermediate course
B1 is where you become independent: you can tell a story, give your opinion and defend it, follow the main points of the news and deal with most problems when you travel.
B2B2 French: upper-intermediate course
B2 is the level most universities and employers in France ask for. You argue for and against, understand people speaking naturally, slang included, and write clear formal letters and essays.
C1C1 French: advanced course
At C1 you use French flexibly and precisely: hedging what you say, analysing a literary extract, presenting a topic with a clear plan and summarising several documents in your own words.
C2C2 French: mastery course
C2 is the top of the scale: you understand virtually everything, from verlan to the subjonctif imparfait, catch the joke and the cultural reference, and argue a position before a demanding jury.
